ABOUT THE PROJECT

ENTANGLED CITY: THREADS OF LIFE begins with a familiar yet often overlooked part of the urban landscape: the tangled overhead electrical wires of a large city. Often perceived as chaotic and visually intrusive, these wires also carry something essential — electricity — connecting homes, shops, buildings, and the everyday lives within them.

The installation reimagines these black urban wires as red textile lines. Red evokes the color of blood, transforming the wires into a metaphor for veins carrying energy through the city. Just as blood sustains the human body, electricity sustains contemporary urban life.

At the heart of the work are red rubber bands commonly used to secure food bags — inexpensive, everyday objects found in local markets and familiar to households. Often used without notice and quickly overlooked, they are transformed through braiding, knotting, binding, and wrapping into lines, loops, and interconnected structures.

Through tension and suspension, the intertwined lines extend into space, transforming apparent disorder into rhythm and structure. ENTANGLED CITY invites us to look again at what we normally dismiss or overlook, and to discover the beauty, energy, and life held within the entanglement.
